Activator Method

Activator Technique 1

What is Activator Technique?

Activator Technique is a diagnostic and treatment method used by our chiropractors to treat many types of back pain, neck pain and headaches (both chronic and migraine).

Application of this method is a small, hand-held instrument known as the activator. The activator will deliver a gentle impulse force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint.

How Does it Work?

Following the examination of your spine and joints, the chiropractors are able to identify the misalignment of the joint which we also call it as “subluxation”.

Certified Chiropractors will then use activator on the segment which is misaligned and apply the force on it correcting it to the correct position and therefore regaining back the equilibrium of the nervous system.

Leg Length Difference X Activator

During examination, chiropractors will also perform leg length discrepancy test.  This evaluation is based on the theory that apparent differences in leg length may indicate where vertebral misalignment in the spine are present.

Activator is used to correct those misalignment and minimizing the discrepancy as much as possible.

Activator Method and Low-Force Chiropractic Care

Activator Method is a low-force chiropractic approach that may be considered when a gentler joint or spinal technique is suitable after assessment.

Why symptoms may keep returning

Recurring symptoms may involve more than the painful area. Posture habits, joint movement, muscle control, previous injury, work position, training load and recovery habits can all affect how often discomfort returns.

What One Spine assesses first

At One Spine TTDI, we assess your pain history, posture, movement, joint function, muscle control and daily activity factors before recommending Activator Method care or another suitable care option.

Care options that may be considered

Care may include low-force instrument-assisted chiropractic, gentle mobilisation, soft tissue work, posture advice, home movement guidance or referral for physiotherapy and rehabilitation when needed.

Who this may be suitable for

This approach may suit patients who prefer a low-force option, older adults, patients who are sensitive to manual techniques, or cases where a practitioner decides that a lighter contact is more appropriate.

When referral may be needed

We may recommend medical review or imaging when there are red flags such as severe trauma, progressive weakness, fever, unexplained weight loss, loss of bladder or bowel control, or worsening neurological symptoms.
